Hi Dubai friends,

Welcome to Week 26, Edition 37

So here is this week’s digest of the ‘Dubai news worth knowing’, all in 10 minutes or less of your time.

Apologies for the slight delay in sending. Had to shoe-horn some of the tips and summer deals in 😃

Actually, that’s only part-true. For some unknown reason, the gremlins were on it today and the links kept glitching. If you find any links don’t work, email me and I’ll make them right and send you them. Hopefully, they seem right enough as of now…

In this case, “Later is better than light” I think.

KNOW MORE ABOUT DUBAI

Dubai Summer Surprises 2024

As Dubai moves into Summer (shoulder > off season) Visit Dubai and the Government have launched the 27th year of Dubai Summer Surprises.

Through this campaign, retail, entertainment and lifestyle destinations will run discounts and offers from 28 June through to 01 September. It’s good a way to keep the economy ticking over in the quieter months and provide value to tourists and residents.

To celebrate the launch of DSS 2024, Majid al Futtaim Malls (such as Mall of Emirates, City Centre Deira and Mirdif City Centre ) will hold a 12 hour flash sale on Fri 28 Jun 24 from 1000 to 2200 with discounts of up to 90%.

Keep track what’s happening throughout the summer on the socials at @celebratedubai (note - they say ‘socials’ but Instagram perhaps is the most regularly updated)

EMIRATES

Emirates Upgrade Tip

Here’s a tip that could be worth trying if you’re awaiting upgrade availability with Emirates.

Emirates Launches Another Fifth Freedom Flight

Not long after their inaugural Fifth Freedom flight from Miami to Bogota took off, Emirates announced they will be flying to Madagascar via the Seychelles.

Fifth Freedom flights are when a carrier flies between countries that are not its home country, and can be a great way to sample premium experiences at cheaper rates, either through shorter flights or ‘cheaper’ routes. One such example is flying First Class for £475, as seen below.

Emirates Reduced Award Pricing for Economy

As Emirates gives, they also take away. As of 01 Jun 24, they have reduced Skywards earning rates but the good news is, economy award costs have been reduced.

If this newsletter, or my content, tips or advice has helped you, would you please consider a tip to support me?

HOTEL DEALS

Summer Staycation Deals

Summer hotel deals keep cropping up, and some are pretty decent.

Just bear in mind the big proviso of summer hotel deals in Dubai - it’s scorchio, it’s off-season, and hotels will often wind-down staffing and operations (e.g. some facilities may be reduced or closed)

As always, check the small print of any promotions because ‘staycations’ sometimes can be restricted to citizens, GCC travellers and residents, rather than non-GCC travellers or tourists.

HOTEL DEALS

Marriott Bonvoy “10,000 Reasons for a Rewarding Escape”

Marriott Bonvoy have launched a “10,000 Reasons for a Rewarding Escape” promotion

  • Stay a minimum of 2 nights, between 27 Jun and 01 Sep 24.

  • Earn up to 10,000 bonus points.

  • Stay to be booked by 22 Aug 24.

  • Promotional Code MR5

  • Valid at selected hotels across Middle East, Africa, London, Paris, Rome and Ireland.

HOTEL OPENINGS

Delano Dubai to Open at Bluewaters in October

Ennismore have announced Delano Dubai will open in October 24.

I’m quite intrigued to see how this will turn out, as Delano is a stunning brand, and it’s a refurb of the previous Caesars Resort at Bluewaters.

Not to be confused with the Banyan Tree Dubai*, which is the old Caesars Palace next door.

Bookings are open direct on All Accor, though not yet on OTAs like BookingCom, though I’m sure they will open up shortly.

Here’s a link to the property page for Delano Dubai on BookingCom*.

*denotes affiliate link. This is a link to a partner site that may pay me a commission - at no further cost to you - and if so, helps to support me & this newsletter. For more info, please see Disclosure and Policies

DUBAI NEWS ROUNDUP

Reform Social & Grill Summer Deals and Events

If you’re looking for somewhere to have a nice chill and hang out away from the rabble, consider Reform Social & Grill. It’s a gastropub out in The Lakes - so you’ll likely need a taxi - but it serves decent food and drinks, and has announced deals, events and activities for June and July. It has a nice terrace and grounds, as well as aircon inside if it’s a bit peaky out.

Ushuaia to Open in Dubai?

Ushuaia Dubai will open for a ‘winter residency’ at Dubai Harbour as Ushuaia Dubai Harbour Experience.

Dubai Has the Most Expensive Cybertruck in the World

Because of course it has, mainly due to the number plate. There is quite the market for private plates in Dubai, especially the ‘vanity’ ones.
